Ras Ma Chia

Ras ma chia, or raspberry mmm chia smoothie. I love smoothies, whether they are nut milk based, water, fruit, coconut yogurt, coconut water or a combination of some or all. My kids also love cow’s milk based smoothies.

I have a big list of smoothies that I’ve created which came just purely from trial and error. But we have our definite favourites, and this is one of them. This smoothie is easy, nourishing and will fill you up. If I have time on a weekend, I prepare for the week or two in advance by freezing fruits and vegetables in a zip lock bag, so I just get a zip lock bag out of the freezer, blend and go. This is a great time saver I got from Pinterest! Particularly if you are using fruit and vegetables that you need to chop.

This particular smoothie was one of my first smoothies I made when I dabbled into raw foods a few years ago, so it has a special little spot in my heart. It’s so good any day of the year, but particularly on a hot day as it cools you down, or, when your not hungry for your usual breakfast or snack. I also like drinking it when I’m suffering from being accidentally glutened.

Ingredients

  • 250ml Coconut Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds (I buy the mixed black and white chia seeds)
  • ⅓ cup Frozen Raspberries
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract or powder

Method

  1. Put all ingredients into your blender.
  2. Blend until it’s reached the desired consistency.

Notes

* If you like sweeter smoothies, you may want to add raw honey, manuka honey or rice malt syrup to sweeten. Remember raspberries are tart.

The above recipe works with frozen strawberries as well. We buy organic frozen berries, but just use whatever you have in your freezer or can buy at the supermarket.
